The Belgian PM isn’t letting a suspected assassination attempt dampen his sense of humor.
BRUSSELS — Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever has shrugged off a foiled terror plot to kill him with a drone … by posting a whimsical picture of his cat on Instagram.
“Maximus, can you catch a drone?” reads a speech bubble next to De Wever’s face in a photo depicting him sitting on a couch with his cat. “Catching a dream? Like no one else can,” the sleepy Maximus says in his speech bubble.

In Dutch, the pronunciations of words for drone (drone) and dream (droom) closely resemble one another. The ’80s hit pop song “Sweet Dreams” by Eurythmics has been added to the post.
On Thursday, three young suspects were arrested in Antwerp over what prosecutors said were plans for a terrorist attack against politicians, including the Flemish nationalist De Wever, who used to be the city’s mayor.
Investigators are probing evidence of plans to use a drone to carry an explosive device as part of the attack.
Maximus, a Scottish Fold, has been De Wever’s residency cat at the Belgian prime minister’s office on Rue de la Loi since late July.
An Instagram account documenting Maximus’ adventures has rapidly gained traction — and more than 62,000 followers.
