Europa League: Marseille suffer heavy defeat at Besiktas

Marseille suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat at Besiktas in Turkey in their opening Europa League match. The result was a fourth consecutive defeat for the French side, who must now prepare for Sunday’s Classique against Paris Saint-Germain at the Vélodrome.

Juventus began their European campaign with a 5-0 win over N.E.C. Nijmegen, with Randal Kolo Muani scoring and providing an assist.

Crystal Palace beat Lech Poznan 4-0, while Bournemouth won 2-1 at Real Sociedad. Portuguese second-tier side Torreense caused an upset by winning 2-1 at Lillestrom. Celtic lost 3-1 to Ferencvaros, while Union Saint-Gilloise beat Plzen 3-0.

In the League Cup, a much-changed Manchester City side beat Norwich 5-0, with Rayan Cherki scoring and 17 year-old Floyd Samba netting twice. Under Enzo Maresca, City have won all six matches.
