Rennes stun Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain to end winless run

Rennes returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion on Friday, claiming a 3-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain and handing Lens the chance to reclaim top spot.

This weekend sees the CAF Champions League group stage come to a close, with several quarter-final spots still up for grabs. Espérance Tunis and Petro de Luanda will face off for second place in Group D, while Mamelodi Sundowns take on MC Alger to qualify from Group C.

Team France added to its medal haul at the Winter Olympics on Friday, with Quentin Fillon Maillet leading the way by winning gold in the men’s biathlon sprint race. Cross-country legend Johannes Klaebo sealed a record-equalling 8th Olympic title in the discipline’s 10km race, as Frenchman Mathis Desloges won silver.

The major surprise of the day came in the men’s figure skating competition, as Kazakhstan’s Mikhail Shaidorov claimed a shock victory over the medal favourites. Ilia Malinin, the reigning world champion, dropped to 8th place after falling twice in his final run.

Away from the slopes, the Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld the IOC’s decision to disqualify Ukraine’s Vladyslav Heraskevych from the Games. The Olympic authorities had taken issue with the skeleton racer’s helmet, which honoured athletes from his country who have been killed during the Russian invasion.
