No fairytale return for Zidane as Italy hold France at the Stade de France

The Stade de France was filled to capacity as the new French national team manager, Zinedine Zidane, prepared to make his home debut. The very side against whom he had ended his playing career in 2006 was once again the opponent he faced. Despite Michael Olise’s splendid free kick, the French were quickly overpowered by a clinical Italian side.

Meanwhile, Belgium are on a roll, having secured a victory against Turkey, who are struggling. Today, the Spanish world champions face the Czech Republic and will be looking to build on their recent success. As for England, although a big match against Croatia awaits the Three Lions, their thoughts are with Manchester. After being found guilty of serious financial offences, Manchester City’s management have announced they will appeal the ruling.
