Former Tory MP Crispin Blunt pleads guilty to possessing illegal drugs

A search of his home in 2023 found drugs including cannabis and crystal meth.

LONDON — The former Conservative MP Crispin Blunt has pleaded guilty to possessing illegal drugs, including cannabis and crystal meth.

Blunt, the MP for Reigate between 1997 and 2024 and briefly a Prisons Minister in David Cameron’s government, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday following drug charges.

After a raid on his Surrey home in 2023, the former MP was found with the chemical sedative GBL, cannabis, methamphetamine, and the drug commonly known as crystal meth.

He pleaded guilty to one count of possessing class A drugs and three charges of possession of class B drugs. He was charged last week.

The drugs were found when Blunt was being investigated on suspicion of rape. After an 18-month investigation, Surrey Police announced last year there would be no further action on the rape allegation due to insufficient evidence.

Blunt lost the Conservative whip when he was first arrested in October 2023 and subsequently stood down from parliament at 2024’s general election.

As well as serving as a justice minister between 2010 and 2012, Blunt also chaired the influential Commons foreign affairs committee from 2015 to 2017.
